Crab Apple

Malus sylvestris

This shrubby tree which grows up to 10m in height is often found in oak woodlands. The leaves are woolly when they open but hairless when expanded. They are oval in shape. The fruits are about 2cm across and are sour and yellow when ripe. Crab apple occurs as far north as Scotland.
