Field Maple

Acer campestre

A common hedgerow tree which occasionally grows to 25 metres. The bark is fissured and grey-brown in colour. The leaves are downy on the underside and young twigs are also hairy. In autumn the leaves turn a beautiful golden red. The seeds are borne on wings set at 180 degrees from each other.
