Over the centuries all sorts of animals roamed Britain's forests including wolves and boar. Wild boar became extinct approximately 400 years ago. Click on the picture to see and hear wild boar. Today Britain's woodlands are still home to thousands of species of plants, fungi and animals. The animals include some of the butterflies and deer such as roe deer as well as badgers, dormice and birds of prey like sparrowhawks and buzzards.
