Graph 3

The first
reading of the day at Cardiff was 4°C, the coldest
temperature recorded during the experiment. At 09:00hr there was some sun and the
temperature rose to 7°C. By 11:00hr
there was cloud and pale sun; the temperature was 9°C. There was
a further rise to 10.25°C by 13:00hr
with just thin cloud overhead. The temperature dropped 0.5°C to 9.75°C by 15:00hr
with cloud, pale sun and a gentle breeze. At 17:00hr there was blue sky, cirrus cloud and
a light breeze; the temperature had dropped to 9°C. At 19:00hr
it was dark, dry with clear sky and breezy and the temperature had fallen to 5.5°C.
Offwell also started with its coldest temperature recorded in the experiment, 7.2°C. At 09:00hr
there was little cloud but the temperature had risen by only 0.4°C, perhaps
because the sensor was still in shade. By 11:00hr there was thin cloud and the temperature
had increased to 11.3°C an increase
of 2.7°C; by now,
the sensor was in sun. The temperature reached its peak of 11.7°C at 13:00
hours, with only scattered cloud. By 15:00hr some thin cloud had returned and the
temperature decreased to 11.4°C. At 17:00hr
there was no apparent cloud cover and the temperature had dropped to 10.1°C. By 19:00hr
the temperature dropped to 7.8°C as darkness
set in, with clear sky.
The temperature range at Cardiff on this day were from 4°C to 10.25°C, that is 6.25°C and at
Offwell from 7.2°C to 11.7°C, that is
4.5°C. The
greatest difference was observed in Cardiff though both sites showed the greatest
temperature range of the three -day period. This day also had the thinnest cloud cover of
the three days and both sites had some sunshine during the day.
