The Clearing

clrnce.JPG (876556 bytes)

General Description of Survey Area

The Clearing is a previously cleared area that is fairly open with little tree cover.  As a result, there is high light intensity at ground level.  The area is quite dry except for where it abuts the Seepage where the ground is moist and the plants are similar to those of the Seepage.  The Clearing lies at the base of an East facing slope and is stony in patches.  There are noticeable large patches of the moss Polytrichum formosum growing over a significant part of the Clearing.
